As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and management of geotechnical and/or geo-environmental assignments including (but not limited to): desk studies, ground investigations (factual and interpretative), slope stability, earthworks assessment, preparation of geotechnical design reports, design of temporary works such as piling platforms, crane bases, retaining walls and piled platforms, as appropriate for your level of experience.
Our projects frequently involve consideration and assessment of geo-environmental projects, and familiarity and understanding of geo-environmental issues such as human health, groundwater and gas risk assessments and preparation of Remediation Method Statements will also form part of the workload.
This role will comprise a varied mix of office and site works, with an ability to manage site work and contractors in the field an essential part of the role.
You will also provide clients with geotechnical and/or geo-environmental advice and assistance as required on an ad hoc basis and negotiate and liaise with relevant regulatory authorities (NHBC, EA, LA etc.) as necessary.
You will have a good working knowledge of appropriate British Standards, Eurocodes, Industry Guidance and NHBC Standards.
You will also be required to provide advice and mentoring to more junior staff within the team as well as give assistance to members of other, related, teams.
The person
You will hold a BEng, BSc or higher technical qualification in a relevant subject (geology, civil engineering, environmental science etc.) and will be working towards Chartered Engineer/Geologist status. You will also have at least five years of relevant experience, ideally gained in both geotechnical design and ground investigation, interpretation and reporting.
The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with good technical capability. AutoCAD and geotechnical assessment and modelling would also be desirable.
